This blog is my story about growing up in a large family living on a North Central Wisconsin dairy farm. Pa and Ma raised seven children on 160 acres and a few milk cows. I was the sixth born child. Pa and Ma held conservative Christian beliefs. Pa read the bible at daily evening devotions and we sang acapella hymns from a songbook.
Pa and my brothers wore bib overalls while Ma and us girls wore dresses. There was men’s work and women’s work on the farm. It seemed to me from a young age that women were expected to help out with the men’s work, but men were not expected to help out with the women’s work.
I didn’t speak up much growing up, but I kept a diary and wrote about my dissatisfaction and frustration with the rules.
This is my story from my perspective – Confessions from the sixth child out of seven.
